If you’re thinking “short of bringing Mick Jagger to my living room for a private concert”, I understand your ennui. Rock games might feel so, well, last-gen. My friends, wait till you see Guitar Hero TV!
Instead of playing along to animated graphics, now you’re on-stage, playing with real playing in front of what you’d swear were live audiences! The special effects required to pull this technological mastery give anything in Game of Thrones a run for its money. In fact, the apparatus used to make it all work is the same Peter Jackson used in The Hobbit.
The same songs were performed by the bands multiple times and recorded using a robotic camera so that the point of view (yours) is from exactly the same spot on stage in each take. When you seem to turn your head to the audience or the band it gives the program a chance to seamlessly weave in a different version of the video that goes with the song. If you’re doing well the audience cheers and your band-mates give their approval. On the other hand, if you’re underperforming they will let you know, big time! The audience is green screened in, and as a result, they could use different looking crowds for each type of song.
Much more to tell about this amazing next-gen reboot of the Guitar Hero franchise. Stay tuned. In the meantime, watch the trailer for yourself here
