My experience with Battlefield Bad Company 2 has been mixed. The first few times I tried to run the PC version it crashed to the desktop everytime I died the first mission. Then, suddenly, it started working perfectly without any intervention on my part. Now, just as suddenly, the game has gone dead again.
Over the weekend I played about half way through the single player game, and was enjoying it. Though less intense and less subtle in the way it handles triggered events than Modern Warfare 2, it was still an interesting mix of locales and situations. Interesting, until EA's latest update shot off a critical hit to my ability to play.
Today, when I fired up the game, I got an alert that said that I wouldn't be allowed to play the game unless I updated. With a gun to my head, I said ok. After the update the game loads right up to the point that a mission is about to go "live" and the 3d engine go into gear. then black screen and *poof* crash to desktop.
I had written to EA about my first set of problems with the game. I tried regular channels (tech support/tech forum) and even writing to the PR guys. All I got was this is not a known problem. No troubleshooting, no ideas. Just you're on your own.
From a look at the tech support board today, it looks like I'm not alone anymore. It looks like this 'update" killed the game for many users.
