Review: Diskeeper 2008 Premier

Diskeeper 2008In an age of bloated utility suites, I've noticed that too often performance tends to get cut, not enhanced by jack-of-all-trades packages. The once indespensible Norton Utilities have been banned from my computers for several years now. So have most of the others. Diskeeper remains as one of the first programs I install on every new computer I build. It does one thing and it does it better than any other program I've tried: it keeps my computer running fast by defragmenting and organizing my hard disk. Best of all it does it almost entirely behind the scenes - whenever my computer is free, Diskeeper quietly tidies things up in the background.

In my experience three things really cause a computer to slow down. Fragmentation, excessive temp files, and overful harddisks. Diskeeper takes care of the first problem effortlessly. Setup is a no brainer and once installed you "set it and forget it". It doesn't do anything about temp files, but it will warn you if your computer is too full to safely do a defrag. You can bet that if things are that full, your system's performance is really taking a hit.

The latest version has other technology that it claims can speed up the system. Maybe. Just so long as Diskeeper continues to make my hard drive work optimally, it will continue to be a "must have" program. www.diskeeper.com/defrag.asp
