If I needed an all-purpose keyboard this season, the Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave Pro Keyboard would be high on my list. Its “wave” design makes it somewhat more comfortable for prolonged use than a straight-line traditional keyboard, but less difficult to adapt to than my keyboard of choice, the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite Plus, the Logitech keyboard and mouse combo is wireless yet completely responsive.
Special, dedicate buttons surround the standard area of the keyboard. These control functions like launching and operating the computer’s media programs (music, photos, etc.). There is also a “zoom” function that can make it easier to view things in your web browser. One of the things that distinguish this keyboard from others in the market, even last year’s version of this same keyboard, is the size of the legends on the keys. They are significantly larger, an important consideration if your eyes are on the other side of 40 years old.
Customizable function keys make this a great keyboard for most home/office functions. The oversized , dedicated function keys make it more likely that they will be used and not just “chrome”.On the other hand, the “wave” shape was not my favorite for controlling games using the familiar WAS keyboard controls. I found the keyboard forced my fingers into a tighter, somewhat asymmetric, position than usual that was tiring after just a little bit of playing. If your primary use is going to be gaming, you might want to look at a keyboard designed from the ground up for the purpose. One thing I like a lot about this keyboard is the three position settings for the “pitch” of the keys. You can leave the keyboard flat or raise it to one of two other heights.
Just as the “wave” design may not be for everyone, the well received MX 1100 cordless mouse, included in the bundle, will thrill some, but not all. First, this is a right handed mouse. Don’t even think about it if you’re a lefty. It is extremely responsive (up to 16oo dpi) and the “hyper-fast” scroll wheel can make navigating documents a breeze. Although wireless, Logitech claims the USB rechargeable mouse can get up to 6 months of battery life. My hand is a bit smaller than average, so I found the mouse to be a bit heavy and large to push around. As with keyboards, it is a good idea to personally test mice at a retail shop before investing to see if the “feel” is right for you.
